Apple Scones with Maple Frosting

Easy and delicious. Makes one feel quite British. :) I serve them with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients
  • 2 C flour
  • ⅓ C sugar
  • 2 t baking powder
  • ½ t baking soda
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • ¼ C butter, cold
  • 1 C shredded Granny Smith apple (preferably)
  • ½ C milk
  • 1 T sugar
  • Frosting:
  • 2 T butter, melted
  • 1 C powdered sugar
  • pour in just enough milk to frost
  • 1 t maple flavoring
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl and stir together.
  3. Cut in the butter. Shred the apple and stir in, along with milk and stir. Add enough flour so that the dough is workable.
  4. Turn out onto flat surface and knead for a minute or two. Work more flour in if needed. . Divide dough into two balls
  5. Flatten until each circle is about 6 inches in diameter. Score lines atop if desired.
  6. Place on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar or brown sugar. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown. Remove. Frost when warm and serve
